2/21 It's Mardi Gras Blog Hop

Welcome to our Mardi Gras parade. I must warn you though while you may enjoy jumping up to catch beads, doubloons, cups, stuffed animals--whatever! Please yell at the float riders "Throw me something, Mister!" Bring a large, sturdy plastic or cloth bag to hold all the treasure you'll be catching - if you try to put all of your beads around your neck, you'll have a hard time standing up straight! Be prepared: some people get so overcome with excitement they will occasionally jump in front of you to grab what a rider has thrown to you. Don't get into a tug-o-war....there are many more floats on the way! If you're from far away, some visitors hold up a sign saying where they are from.. our local riders love to see people from far away have a good time and will throw to them to make sure they do!

The colors of Mardi Gras are: Purple which reprsents justice; Green which represents faith; and Gold which represents power.Mardi Gras is always held the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. Mardi Gras is music, parades, picnics, floats, excitement ... and one big holiday in New Orleans! Everyone is wearing purple, green, and gold; and adorned with long beads caught from the beautiful floats. They sit on the ground throwing balls, playing music, having a picnic, and watching the crowds walk by between parades.

Instead of beads, coconuts (which apparently is the most prized throw from floats) and other baubles, we have a great sponsor:

Sew, sit back with your beverage of choice, just keep in mind the police will be in full force watching for drunken lewdness as this is a family event! Feel free to watch in costume, as this is a festive hop!! If you have arrived from Rhonda - http://craftingwithblue.blogspot.com  on the parade route, then you are sitting at the best seat in the house! If you have just happened to be visiting me today, don't get me wrong as I always love visitors, I would love for you to start at the beginning of our parade route at Lynne, your hostess along with Kimberly, at http://slasewcraftiness.blogspot.com/.

My project is a card with traditional Mardi Gras colors.

Hope you enjoyed my float in the parade. To continue on the parade route, Your next stop is Katie ~ http://www.ktsangels.blogspot.com . I would love for you to throw me your comments as to my tribute to Mardi Gras!

Miracle Blog Hop

Welcome to the Miracle Blog Hop.  You should have gotten here from Kimberly ~ http://scrappingrookie.blogspot.com .  If you didn't please start at the beginning with Melissa Pinter-http://pinkpolkadotscrapping.blogspot.com so you don't miss a thing!

Many of us could share a miracle that we have witnessed in our lifetime.  I have been blessed to have seen two miracles unfold over the last ten years in the same family.  In November of 2001 we met a wonderful family through Church.  Michael and Terri, Terri's parents Jimmy and Sue, and Michael's parents, Larry and Nila.  Larry was battling a condition we had never heard of called Amyloidosis.  It is a very dibilitating disease.  Larry was on dialysis for several years and in desperate need of a kidney transplant.  While going through the process to qualify for a transplant, it was discovered that Larry had cancer in his kidneys.  In order to qualify for the transplant Larry had to have the cancer removed which meant living without a kidney, depending fully on dialysis, and remaining cancer free for a year.  Larry made it through all of that.  As many of you know, there still is the issue of a donor.  There was a young man in our Church named Wesley who told Larry he would donate one of his kidneys.  In a miracle that only God could provide Wesley was a match.  Larry is about three years past his transplant at this time, and although there are always obstacles, he continues to persevere.

Now for the other miracle, Terri's mom Sue has suffered with heart issues over the years.  Sue had a heart valve replacement about 25 years ago.  Sue's condition worsened to the point over the last year that it was determined a heart transplant was the only solution.  In 2011 Sue was placed on the transplant list at local research hospital.  Then on a September Sunday in 2011, we had just arrived at Church when Sue got a call from hospital.  There was a donor heart, and several potential recipients had been called to come to hospital.  Doctors would determine the best choice of the recipients.  Sue received a new heart that day and made a miraculous recovery.  Terri, their son Ben, and Terri's father Jimmy sang a special song in church today that they had originally planned to sing that day in September.  Through this one family we have been blessed to see the miracles that God provides in our lives.

I created a special card to commemorate the miracles in this family.

Now continue on over to Autumn http://autumnsbuggycreations.blogspot.com . The entire lineup for today is:

My project for today is a Valentine Card made out of K and Company Paper and Embellishments.

My recipe today came from Pinterest and is courtesy of "The Girl Who Ate Everything."

Peanut Butter Chocolate Bars
by Greta White

1 (18.25) package plain yellow cake mix
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 cup creamy peanut butter
2 eggs
1 (12 oz) package semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
2 Tablespoons butter
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 cup coconut (optional...my sister did not like the texture of it in there)

Directions:
1) Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
2) Combine cake mix, melted butter, peanut butter, and eggs in a large bowl using a mixer or spoon. Press this into a 9X13 pan reserving 1 1/2 cup of the mixture to crumble on top.

3) In a small pot, melt chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, and butter. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla and coconut.
4) Spread chocolate mixture over the mixture pressed in the pan and then crumble the 1 1/2 cups of reserved cake mixture on top evenly.
5) Bake for 20-25 minutes. Cool completely before cutting into bars.
